On Friday, July 13, members of the MABA Board of Directors joined the Michigan Millers Association (MMA) at their 161st membership meeting, and held its own quarterly meeting, which included changes to the makeup of the MABA Board. Joining the Millers Association membership meeting was a special opportunity to strengthen ties with Michigan’s wheat industry and reflects the strong shared membership between MABA and the Michigan Millers. For several years, MMA has hosted its Annual Meeting in concert with the MABA Winter Conference. We appreciated the opportunity to make new introductions and focus together on wheat industry topics. The MABA Board meeting included recognition of outgoing 1st Vice Chair, Michelle Bergman upon her recent retirement from the Co-op Elevator Company. Michelle has been a great partner for MABA, having been part of the Leadership Program and then rising to serve as a board member and officer. We thank Michelle for all you have done for the industry! With this change, the MABA Board named current Board member Mike Rumsey with The Andersons, Inc. to join the Association’s Executive Committee, and named Aaron Fahrner with Cooperative Elevator Co. to join the Board. Both will serve through December 31, 2025 before becoming eligible for new terms. Fahrner manages the grain department at the Co-op Elevator Co. and assists with dry edible bean sales. He is a past Leadership Program participant and serves as a Brookfield Township Trustee, and on the Huron County Community Foundation board. Rumsey, who has served on the MABA Board since 2022, manages fertilizer plant operations in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin for The Andersons. He was part of MABA’s inaugural Leadership Program group. We thank these leaders for stepping up to serve in leadership roles for your association. ###
