(June 6, 2023) – Leaders of the Michigan Agri-Business Association and Michigan Corn Growers Association today recognized Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-08) for standing up on behalf of corn farmers and all those who use modern agricultural technology. They welcomed the recent announcement that the United States has requested dispute settlement consultations with Mexico, regarding Mexico’s baseless decrees restricting biotechnology, and highlighted Congressman Kildee’s leadership on this issue. “Michigan corn growers rely on proven innovation to sustainably produce crops, and we appreciate Congressman Dan Kildee for helping ensure their products are not unfairly kept out of global markets,” said Jim Zook, Executive Director of the Michigan Corn Growers Association. “The United States Trade Representative has done the right thing with this enforcement action against Mexico under the U.S-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement, and Congressman Kildee played a leading role in urging the administration to take this important step.” “Congressman Kildee understands the critical importance of agricultural technology for the success of our state’s farmers, rural businesses and broader economy,” said Chuck Lippstreu, President of the Michigan Agri-Business Association. “Mexico’s unfair, politically-motivated attacks to restrict proven agricultural technology need to be addressed.
