June 29, 2020 – Michigan Agri-Business Association President Chuck Lippstreu issued the following statement regarding this evening’s announcement that the Governor and Legislature have reached agreement on a framework to address the state’s Fiscal Year 2020 budget: “We applaud Governor Whitmer, Majority Leader Shirkey and Speaker Chatfield on tonight’s announcement of a framework agreement to address the state’s budget shortfall. Many functions of state government are critical for the success of Michigan’s agricultural sector, and we are hopeful the budget will fully equip MDARD and other state agencies to continue their important work on behalf of farmers and rural businesses. We also recognize that addressing the situation facing Michigan’s budget will require federal collaboration, and we continue to encourage Congress to act on additional funding to help our state overcome this unprecedented crisis.
