September 5, 2023 – We hope everyone had a great Labor Day! The past few weeks have been packed with events for our team, as well as planning for future activities – including several upcoming Ag Club Breakfasts, the Outlook Conference and our November Leadership Group program.
We’re also looking ahead to two important opportunities to serve our industry with continuing education: First, a two-day virtual RUP seminar on December 14-15, 2023, and second, the 2024 Winter Conference on January 9-10, 2024. Registration for these activities is not yet open, but will be soon.
Amid all of this we are looking ahead to what promises to be a busy legislative session this fall. We expect energy legislation affecting renewable energy siting, and proposed restrictions on neonicotinoids to be on the agenda in the coming months, among many other topics.

Updated August 31, 2023. The Michigan Agri-Business Association is writing to remind our members to save the date for the many networking and charitable events being led by the Association and our partners across Michigan.
MABA is also announcing today the dates for 2023 Virtual RUP Applicator Training and the 2024 Winter Conference and Trade Show.
Take a moment to help MABA advocate for a change in federal law that ensures continued access to critical agricultural technology. The Michigan Agri-Business Association, many MIchigan agricultural organizations and more than 350 U.S. agricultural organizations have joined together to support HR4288, the Agricultural Labeling Uniformity Act.
This legislation delivers clarity that while states have every right to build on the federal government’s baseline regulations, they should not have the ability to contradict the scientific review process and findings of the U.S. EPA. MABA strongly supports EPA’s science-based regulation of pesticide products and encourages our members to make their voice heard on this issue, ensuring EPA retains regulatory authority over pesticides.
Recently, some states have proposed, or even created a patchwork of additional, conflicting regulations that go beyond EPA’s science-based findings on pesticide labeling. This threatens the ability for farmers and rural businesses to use tested, approved and regulated crop protection products. Bipartisan legislation has been introduced and is progressing in Congress to address this—but this effort needs our help.
You can let Congress know you support this fix by submitting a letter here. MABA encourages our members to weigh in on this important issue.
As we took a break in July from some regularly scheduled events and marked Independence Day, MABA had more time over the past few weeks to plan for our busy fall and winter months – namely the upcoming Outlook Conference, our December virtual RUP credit sessions and the 2024 Winter Conference.

One program we’re especially proud of is the Agri-Business Leadership Program, which brought together our incoming cohort of participants in late July. We also recognized the outgoing, 2022-23 class at the same two-day seminar hosted in the Grand Rapids area.
For nearly 15 years, this program has helped emerging leaders in Michigan’s agribusiness community learn about the work of your Association and become more familiar with policy advocacy at the local, state and federal levels. Classes convene four times per year in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Washington, DC and Detroit.
For our joint session of the 2022-23 and 2023-24 Agri-Business Leadership Program classes, a total of 18 industry leaders traveled to the west side of the state. The groups convened at King Milling Co., and attended meetings in downtown Grand Rapids. In addition to presentations from a range of West Michigan business, community and agricultural leaders, class members had an opportunity to tour King Milling and learn about the company’s ongoing expansion.
