MABA Statement on Committee Approval of U.S. Grain Standards Act Reauthorization

June 24, 2020 — Chuck Lippstreu, president of the Michigan Agri-Business Association, made the following statement today following approval by the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee of the U.S. Grain Standards Reauthorization Act of 2020:

“The U.S. Grain Standards Act provides certainty for farmers, grain handlers, end users and consumers in Michigan and across our nation. It is integral to our agricultural system and the United States’ position as a leading grain exporter. The Michigan Agri-Business Association commends Senator Debbie Stabenow, Senator Pat Roberts and the entire U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee for their bipartisan effort to reauthorize this important legislation for another five years. With some Grain Standards Act provisions expiring September 30, 2020, we encourage the full U.S. Senate to approve this reauthorization without delay.”

MABA Educational Trust awards 15 scholarships for fall 2020 semester

June 23, 2020 — The Michigan Agri-Business Association (MABA) Educational Trust recently awarded scholarships to 15 Michigan students planning to enter the agriculture industry. Fall scholarships offered through the Educational Trust totaled nearly $12,000.

“The Michigan Agri-Business Association is proud to support the next generation of industry leaders through the Educational Trust,” said MABA president Chuck Lippstreu. “Our members recognize the critical need to support young people who are entering agriculture. We congratulate these 15 scholarship recipients and wish them the best of luck headed into the fall semester.”

Ninth Circuit Rules on Dicamba Emergency Motion

June 20 Update — The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday night denied an emergency motion that had been filed to end dicamba product use immediately. This means that EPA’s guidance (and MDARD’s matching guidance) on existing stocks remains in place; growers and commercial applicators can use stocks in their possession as of June 3. 

June 12 Update – MDARD issued a media release regarding dicamba product registrations affected by the recent Ninth Circuit ruling. This MDARD announcement aligns Michigan policy with EPA’s Monday evening guidance. Please review the MDARD information and contact MABA if you have questions.
