MABA echoes industry concern following dicamba ruling

February 9, 2024 | The Michigan Agri-Business Association shares the concerns voiced by U.S. farm and rural business leaders following this week’s Federal court ruling vacating the registration for over-the-top applications of dicamba on dicamba-tolerant crops. The ruling comes at an extremely difficult time as soybean growers have already established plans for the 2024 growing season.

We encourage MABA members to review two letters sent this week to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by the Agricultural Retailers Association, one of MABA’s national-level partners, and the American Soybean Association. MABA echoes the concerns voiced in these letters and the call for EPA to implement as broad of an existing stocks policy as possible.

MABA will update members as more information becomes available from federal and state authorities on the impacts of this ruling.

MABA remembers Phil Schmiege

February 1, 2024 | The Michigan Agri-Business Association and many across Michigan agriculture were saddened this week to learn about the passing of Phillip “Phil” Schmiege.

Phil was a leader who took time to give back to our agricultural industry, his state and local community. His contributions to agriculture included serving as Michigan Agri-Business Association Chairman in 1999, and supporting the next generation of ag professionals as a MABA Educational Trustee until the time of his passing.

Most important, Phil was an all-around great guy and a good friend to many, including our MABA team. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Schmiege family as we remember Phil Schmiege. Phil’s obituary and information about upcoming services can be viewed here.
